York Law School has launched a new master’s programme for students aiming to qualify for the Solicitor Qualifying Examination (SQE). The LLM in Professional Legal Practice (SQE1 & SQE2) will provide training for both SQE1 and SQE2 exams, as well as a range of other options focused on employability and the profession.
York has also announced a partnership with the established SQE training provider, The College of Legal Practice. The College will provide York with their learning materials for SQE1 to support the development and delivery of the new programme.
York Law School is looking to recruit approximately 50 students to the LLM for the September 2025 academic year.
Professor Scott Slorach, Director of Learning & Teaching at York Law School, said: “From our experience of developing professional programmes, and understanding the challenges of the SQE, the York Law School team see The College of Legal Practice’s SQE materials as a key component of our new programme. There is a great synergy in our respective focus on effective and engaging learning design.”
“We are excited to be offering, at York, a more personalised LLM programme that offers students both SQE and professional practice training, whatever their legal career ambitions.”
Dr Giles Proctor, CEO of The College of Legal Practice, said: “I am thoroughly delighted that The College of Legal Practice has been chosen to work with York Law School, a leading legal education institution.
“By selecting our SQE preparation materials, the University of York will be able to give their students the very best preparation for these intense exams. We look forward to working closely with their team.”
