All students are allocated a personal supervisor on each module or programme. Your supervisor is experienced both in practice and in pastoral support for students. Your supervisor is your main point of contact for everything related to your legal learning, and you will have live sessions with them throughout the course. You will also be able to email them about any concerns or issues. They will guide you and advise on your progress, particularly where you are studying for the SQE exams.

Reasonable Adjustments
The College offers a structured and supportive reasonable adjustments process. Once you have accepted a place, we will reach out to you to understand what adjustments you require. To ensure that we can put them in place in time for all your assessments and let your supervisors know, please contact us as soon as possible.

Reasonable Adjustments

I called to discuss some queries I had regarding the course content and spoke with their Student Services Officer, Matt. From that phone call and the follow up emails I made my decision to study with COLP. I can honestly say that the warm welcome and assistance I received that day continued with all of the tutors and support teams I dealt with during my studies. I am pleased to say that I passed both the SQE1 and SQE2 exams first time.

Emma Powell

Associate Solicitor for Morris & Company, passed SQE1 and SQE2 with the College.

mental health and wellbeing support

Your mental health and wellbeing is very important to us, and we recognise that studying for the SQE in particular is very intensive and can be stressful.

The College offers all our students a free online wellbeing hub, through a partnership with Spectrum Life. This hub gives you free health, wellbeing, and mental health information and resources, from bitesize videos to timed relaxation activities. You will also receive information and resources through your student updates.

Should you feel you need individual support, you can confidentially access free online counselling sessions from Spectrum’s independent expert team or speak to the Student Services team who are all trained in Mental Health first aid.

HELP & SUPPORT

Inclusive Learning

The College is fully committed to ensuring that its information, learning and processes are accessible and relevant to all. One of our main goals as an organisation is increase access to opportunities in the legal profession and our signature learning design delivers both flexibility and accessibility.

The online nature of our programmes and 1-2-1 supervisor approach gives students a high level of flexibility across the week to choose when to study. Our courses are focused and productive, and specifically designed to achieve the required learning outcomes. We feel that they offer excellent value for money and minimise additional expenses for students, such as accommodation, travel and materials.

Student Services will also discuss with you any reasonable adjustments that you might need to ensure that you can perform at your best in our assessments. We will try and mirror any adjustments agreed by the SRA for the external SQE exams. Please also share your learning needs with your supervisors so they can help you with your progress on the programmes.

Committed to diversity and inclusion

We are monitoring the diversity of our students closely, and we are pleased to share that our students in 2021 came from a variety of backgrounds, and we were able to work very closely with those who needed adjustments to successfully complete their chosen legal course.

Our Programme Committee Chair leads our strategy on Diversity & Inclusion, ensuring that it is considered at the higher level in the organisation.

At The College of Legal Practice, we believe that a diverse and inclusive legal profession is essential to providing a more just legal system and we are dedicated to creating a learning environment that is welcoming and supportive of all students, regardless of their background or identity.

We recognise that our students come from a wide range of socio-economic, cultural, and religious backgrounds, and we are committed to providing them with the resources and support they need to succeed in their legal careers.

We also understand that the legal profession has historically been less accessible to many marginalised groups, and we are committed to doing our bit to encourage representation and access.

We do this by partnering with organisations and firms that promote diversity and inclusion, and by offering scholarships to students from underrepresented groups as well as flexible learning and funding options for those looking to take the SQE.

In addition to supporting our students, we are committed to advancing diversity and inclusion more widely within the legal industry. We believe that it is our responsibility to use our platform to promote positive change, and we work closely with industry leaders and organisations to help drive progress. We recognise that enabling diversity and inclusion is an ongoing process, and we are continually learning and adapting to ensure that we are doing everything we can to support our students and advance these important values within the legal profession.

Student Support FAQS

I have a need for adjustments, what can I expect?

The College welcomes all students, including those with disabilities and health conditions that may adversely affect the ability to complete day to day studies. We offer flexible support services that can be tailored to the needs of the student through an Individual Study Adjustment (ISA). Ultimately, we wish to ensure every student has access to fair learning and assessment, feeling confident in their ability to succeed in their studies.

To ensure that we can assess your reasonable adjustments and where appropriate put them into place before you start your modules, please contact us prior to application if possible and apply early, otherwise you may not have adjustments in place in time for your first assessments.

Reasonable adjustments

Will I receive my manuals physically too or just digitally?

You will receive your manuals both digitally and physically, allowing you to choose the format that works for you. We find that students enjoy having the ability to switch between whatever works best for their style of learning and has been a helpful tool in making our courses more accessible.

I need reasonable adjustments for the SQE exams themselves, what do I do?

Sign up for an SQE account as soon as you have decided that you are taking the exam, even if you are unsure which sitting you will take. Then apply directly through your SQE account for reasonable adjustments as it could take some time for confirmation. The College tries to mirror any reasonable adjustments offered for SQE exams in our assessments to help you prepare, so early confirmation from the SRA will help your preparation.
