Embracing Accessibility: My Journey at The College of Legal Practice

As part of disability pride month we're sharing the thoughts and experiences shared by one of our students Abdul Malik below, as they study with us. The College of Legal Practice is incredibly passionate about increasing access to the profession and ensuring that our courses are accessible to all. By providing flexible remote study with strong personal support and continually aiming to improve the experiences of our diverse student cohort we hope to do our part in making the start of aspiring solicitors journeys that much more accessible.

"As a disabled student pursuing my Graduate Diploma in Law, finding the right educational environment has been paramount to my success. In my quest for a supportive and accessible learning experience, I discovered The College of Legal Practice, an online institute renowned for its commitment to providing an inclusive education for all students. My journey at this institution has not only been transformative but has also underscored the importance of accessibility in legal education.

One of the standout features of The College of Legal Practice is its exceptional online learning environment. From the outset, I was impressed by the seamless integration of technology into every aspect of the learning process. The institution's dedication to accessibility is evident in its use of Zoom for online classes, ensuring that students can participate in real-time lectures from the comfort of their own homes. This has been invaluable to me, as it eliminates the physical barriers often encountered in traditional classroom settings.

Moreover, the institute goes above and beyond to cater to the individual needs of its students. Through online one-to-one meetings, I have had the opportunity to address any concerns or challenges I may have encountered with course content. The accessibility of these sessions has been instrumental in enhancing my understanding of complex legal concepts and ensuring that I remain on track with my studies.

In addition to personalised support, The College of Legal Practice fosters a sense of community through online group study sessions. These collaborative forums allow students to engage with their peers, share insights, and benefit from diverse perspectives. As a disabled student, I have found these group study sessions to be particularly enriching, as they provide a supportive environment where I can learn from my peers and contribute to meaningful discussions.

One of the most impressive aspects of The College of Legal Practice is its commitment to flexibility and accessibility. Recognising that students may face various challenges that could impact their ability to attend classes, the institution offers recorded lectures that can be accessed at any time. This feature has been a game-changer for me, as it allows me to review course material at my own pace and revisit key concepts as needed. Whether I miss a class due to medical appointments or simply need extra time to digest complex topics, the ability to access recorded lectures ensures that I never fall behind in my studies.

Furthermore, the institution's dedication to accessibility extends beyond the virtual classroom. The College of Legal Practice has implemented measures to ensure that its website and learning management system are fully compliant with accessibility standards, however the only issue I have encountered is that the accessibility tool Immersive Reader does not read PDF files at the moment. Apart from that it does make study easier for students with disabilities to navigate course materials and resources.

In conclusion, my experience at The College of Legal Practice has been nothing short of exceptional. The institution's commitment to accessibility, flexibility, and personalised support has empowered me to pursue my academic goals with confidence. Through its innovative online learning environment, The College of Legal Practice is not only breaking down barriers to legal education but also setting a benchmark for inclusivity in the field. As a disabled student, I am grateful for the opportunities afforded to me by this forward-thinking institution, and I look forward to continuing my journey with them as I pursue my legal career."

The College of Legal Practice is grateful for all valuable feedback from it's students and is looking into making our PDFs more accessible for all PDF readers going forward. To read more about the College's reasonable adjustments click here.
